Mountain Man Services is a locally owned and operated family business.
Our products are made using choice, clear grain Western Red Cedar and other quality woods. Each piece is hand-crafted for snug joinery and finely sanded to a 100 grit finish. Custom finishing, staining or painting is included to ensure the wood lasts and repels our wet Westcoast weather.

While Mountain Man Services specializes in larger projects like wood fencing, decks and stairs, we also create chairs, picnic tables, planters, potting benches, storage boxes and trunks, serving carts, rabbit hutches, custom signs and more!

Finely Crafted Wood Products
Mountain Man Services designs and fabricates fencing and many wood products, from cedar and other woods. Mountain Man's wood products are handmade in Lake Cowichan on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Please see our Products page for photo examples and information. So, what can we build?
We can build you a classic cedar fence, or other fencing including wire fencing, with gates, or construct cedar fence panels. We also can build a gazebo or shed, a porch swing, a garden arbor or trellis, a bridge for your pond, a patio set including chairs or bench and a table, a planter box, an easel, a potting bench, a wooden sign...or send us your ideas/design and we will create it for you!
We do renovations and new construction on decks, patios, porches, balconies and stairs, and can install both posts and wire fencing, as well as the wood fencing we build.

Mountain Man Services has been operating in Lake Cowichan for over seven years and employs over a dozen local people from the Cowichan Valley. Denis Pilon, proprietor, has an ever growing distinctive and unique line of custom products, in addition to the traditional wood fencing, gates and arbors for which Denis (a.k.a. Mountain Man) has become renowned.
Nestled in the heart of the beautiful community of Lake Cowichan, Mountain Man Services' downtown location adds a complimentary rest area among a pleasing array of flower boxes and woodwork for the town's pedestrians. A strong sense of community plus the desire to produce top quality products has lead to Mountain Man's success. Much of their business comes from referrals from previous clients.
Denis and Erika Pilon and their two children believe that Mountain Man Services has grown out of their family's commitment and integrity. Much of the planning, finishing work and treating occurs where their family lives. Mountain Man Services also has an interest in a local mill which gives them an edge on their competitors by cutting supply and production costs.
